Beach Girls

It was the summer going into my junior year of college and I believe it was my family’s last beach trip before I was off to school  in Indiana.
It was one of those perfect days go to the beach. The water wasn't too cold, hundreds of towels lined the beach with families and friends enjoying a lazy summer day. The sun was out in full force, extending it’s rays out into the perfectly blue, almost cloudless sky. There were only a few clouds out, but they were those really puffy clouds, like the kind you always want to jump on. There were families sitting on their big beach towels with snacks and drinks sprawled out everywhere, kids running, jumping and playing in the waves and surfers trying to catch the perfect wave.
There is this part of Laguna that extends into the water where there are these massive rocks you can climb on and then look out where the sky meets the ocean. When I close my eyes, I hear the crashing of the waves and feel the wind blow my hair across my face. I dig my toes into the warm inviting sand and smell the saltiness of the water. I slowly inhale, then exhale and feel complete serenity.
