Top Five

Most all of high school and going into college, I stuck to wearing mostly Benefit products. And until my sister became my makeup guru, I only wore Dandelion, which if I'm being honest is still my favorite blush. My sister recently introduced me to Becca products a few months ago and I've been wearing this light pink shade which has a slight undertone of highlight in it and it is gorgeous. It goes  so naturally with my skin color. I recently ordered a few Canmake blushes, they're really fun and reasonably priced compared to the other four choices.

My Beauty Uniform

Have you always worn makeup?
Honestly, I didn’t even take an interest until college. In high school I stuck to the basics, a little mascara, barely there blush and Vaseline for a glossy look. Fortunately, I have a fair complexion and mildly dry skin. With a little moisturizer, there was no need to wear makeup. And only when I started noticing my friends wear makeup did I take an interest, my mom was not thrilled but at least she introduced me brands that catered towards a natural look. To sum up my beauty routine with less than five brands, I’d say Benefit, Neutrogena, Philosophy and Kiehl's were favorites.

Now that you’re into makeup, what products do you use every day?
When I first started wearing makeup in high school, it was a battle. I was fifteen and my mom didn’t allow it, so if I wanted something I would have to pay for it. Since Neutrogena was the only drugstore brand my skin would take (I’d break out or get a rash from everything else) and there was no Sephora around, Saks and Macy’s were my only options. I was already use to wearing expensive skincare and I didn’t want to risk a cheap makeup brand so my skin would have a weird reaction, I started with a lot of Benefit products. Over the years I’ve found that Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar is the best facial moisturizer and Lancome Facial Toner, the most refreshing toner.  I use Make Up Forever HD Microfinish concealer for a sleek dewy finish, Stila blush/bronzer duo and Clinique Everlasting Mascara.

What about your lips?
I go between a nude to pink lip during the day, a plum lip for dates and a red lip for a bold or classy look.

What do you use to care for your hair? And how do you style it?
I swear by Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo. I rarely use products for my hair but I do love dry shampoo. I’m lucky I have thick and shiny hair (thanks to my mom), why mess with that! I also have a nice natural wave so I strut that often.

Favorite Date Night:
There's two in particular. Anytime a music artist my boyfriend and I like are touring through L.A. we always go see them. One weekend we saw one of his favorite artists and then met him after the show when he was packing up the band's equipment. I'm pretty sure my boyfriend was freaking out inside when he shook hands with Ben Sharp. It was a perfect sunny and breezy (and a few raindrops)  L.A. weekend, we spent the trip talking about the show, walking around L.A., watching the sunset and dining out at our favorite restaurant.

When my sister and I moved to New York five years ago, we hit the ground running. Since it was only a temporary home for me, we packed as much as we could into our time living in the city together. It was literally our first weekend in Manhattan and since we didn’t have a lot of money, after a great comedy show we walked more than fifty blocks down 3rd Avenue. We ate pizza at midnight, laughed and marveled at the city that became home...at least for a little bit.

Do you have any tricks for getting dressed up?
A simple dress, statement jewelry, a messy bun and a bold lip.

What is your signature scent:
Tender Touch by Burberry but of course it’s discontinued. If you find it let me know, asap!

How do you relax at the end of a long day?
Organizing (the librarian in me), bubble baths and wine.

Do you have any rituals that help you feel great?
I have never been an athletic person. When I started high school, my parents wanted me to be active (since my siblings were star players in basketball and softball) and since I grew up in the pool my dad suggested being a part of the swim team. I’ve been swimming laps on and off for over ten years, I’ve even considered teaching swimming lessons but I just can’t seem to find the time. There’s something so relaxing and eternally summer about hitting the pool.

Posies and Co

Since my sister is constantly suggesting makeup brands, sharing her favorite lipsticks with me and recommending skincare products to try out, I have been all about trying out new things. This is something I do not do, I'm always nervous my skin will have some terrible reaction.  I have been wearing the same products for year so I'm definitely curious to try new things, luckily no flare ups or itchy skin yet. I came across this brand, Posies and Co Bath and Body Oil and I love, love, love it. I perfer the Frangipani scent, go to your local Anthropologie and stock up and this lush little treat.

Do It Yourself Facial Mask

I've never spent the day at a spa, even though I think about it all the time. Maybe for the my 30th birthday, I'll treat myself to a full body massage, a facial and enjoy a steam. If you are into homemade facials, here's an excellent one I just tried a few weeks ago that I loved.

Ingredients:

1/2 avocado
1 teaspoon organic honey
1 teaspoon plain yogurt (the higher in fat, the more moisturizing)

Directions:

Mash avocado in a small bowl

Add honey and yogurt and combine until mostly smooth-a few lumps are just fine.

Spread a thick layer onto clean skin. Let sit for 10-15 minutes or longer. Remove a warm wash cloth. Finish with a splash of cool water and your favorite moisturizer.

10 Items or Less

I have been a long time fan of Benefit Cosmetics, As in I started wearing it in high school over ten years ago, the products and the packaging just screamed me. I wore the same mascara and blush for six years before my sister suggested other palettes, colors and brands. These are my less than ten items you must have from Benefit! Enjoy :)

Simple Updo

Other than the fact I am in serious need of a hair cut and a new style, my hair has been in sad and boring pony tail way to much lately. Needing a little inspiration for a pretty and simple updo for holiday pictures, these are easy and glamorous, even on the go :)

Top 10 For Glowing Skin

When it comes to makeup trends and what's going on the world of beauty, I go straight to my sister. Instead of relying solely on beauty bloggers, my sister is hands down an awesome makeup guru and she knows my skin so well she knows exactly what I should be wearing and trying out. With the help of her and our favorite vlogger, Jaclyn Hill, these are my absolute favorite pieces for glowing skin. Have fun and treat yourself to something nice and illuminating today :)

Do It Yourself Facial

If there's one thing I inherited from my maternal grandmother, it was the art of pampering. My grandmother was the queen of makeup, creams, nail lacquer and having the latest and greatest beauty items. Growing up playing in her bathroom drawers while she was cooking dinner, I've grown up to become exactly like her. And if I could afford to hit the spas on a weekly basis, oh believe me when I say I would be having massages and facials all day long. But until then, I am all about do it yourself routines. This Berry Yogurt Mask is one I have yet to try but sounds fantastic :)

Step 1

In a blender, combine 2 tablespoons plain yogurt and 2 tablespoons honey, and pulse until fully combined.

Step 2

Add 1/4 cup mixed berries, pureeing until smooth, then add 1 tablespoon lemon juice.

Step 3

Using your hands, apply mixture to a clean, dry face. Let mask sit 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse face thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
Age Avengers
Blackberries deliver even more antioxidants than blueberries do.

Main Squeeze
The vitamin C and natural enzymes in fresh citrus help brighten the skin.

The Bee's Knees
A mild antiseptic, honey gently exfoliates, promotes tissue growth, and seals in moisture.

Morning Routines

If there was one thing I could put more time and effort into it would be my skincare and makeup routines. When it comes to applying makeup, I'm a little impatient, I don't want to spend more than fifteen minutes putting everything on. I stick to a very basic practice-foundation, mascara, one eye palette, lipstick and blush. I didn't start using primers, toners, illuminators and other things until I noticed how healthy my sister's skin looked. Whenever we visit, it seems like she's got me following a strict schedule of cremes and toners in the evening and then a full on makeup tutorial the next morning. I finally caved in and after a few weeks of using all her recommended products, my skin looks and feels so much better. What's your skin situation? Are you a makeup queen or high maintenance when it comes to skin and makeup?

The Beauty Queen

When it comes to anything concerning beauty products, I'll most likely be at the beauty counter finding the best of the best, testing out samples and spending way too many hours trying out my latest finds. From soaps, lotions, hair tools, finding the best moisturizing facial wipes and all things makeup, I'm am your beauty queen. My current and most favorite products include Lush bath bombs, Molton Brown hand soap, Aerin fragrances and any and everything in the Philosophy brand. What's your beauty secret?

Saturday Happy

If you would have asked me about Lush Products six months ago, I would have had no clue what you were talking about. My sister introduced the line to me by surprising me with top rated soaps, bath bombs and lotions for my birthday back in November. Four months later, hanging out at the Lush counter with my sister will become a visiting ritual when I come to see her. The best part, they have a spa!!! When I book my next flight, I'll be checking myself into an afternoon at the spa :) What's making you happy this week?

Aerin Cosmetics

Spending the afternoon roaming the shopping district in my hometown a few weeks ago, I found myself hanging out at the beauty counter in Saks gabbing with beauticians and finding myself looking forward to a future make up tutorial and makeover!! After introducing me to the Aerin line by Aerin Lauder (which I actually knew about since I already have a secret crush on fab lady), I couldn't help but mentally pick out all my favorite things like this Lilac perfume, eye palette and lip gloss. Make sure to check out her line sometime this week and treat yourself to something a little nice.

Dream Cream

A man and a woman met in an nail and hair salon, one loved hair and the other beauty products. After having spent a decade working with The Body Shop, it took Mark and Liz fifteen years to get their brand LUSH off the ground. Forty years in the business of creating quality and environmentally friendly products, LUSH is all that and more! It is quickly becoming my personal favorite, so I hope you introduce yourself to their brand. Have you heard of their dream line, buy it now and you'll be in heaven. Thanks to my sweet sis for surprising me with a few lush things for my birthday!

Saturday Happy

Have you seen the new Essie fall collection?! I came across it in my latest In Style magazine and immediately went out in search of For the Twill of it. Luckily, my mom found it first and snatched it up for me :) What's making you happy this week?!

Side Swept Do's

One thing I miss about my long hair is tossing it to the side and making a messy braid, because there's nothing more chic, summery and super cool to rock during the blistering temperatures in the desert. Not to mention this nude hat would be perfect to sport around, I'll go ahead and start searching for a wide banded hat to add to my small but growing collection. What are you favorite quick do's during the summers?

If you're wondering where I've been for the last month and half, I've been dealing with a few personal matters and slowly but...
