One word: EPIC!!! I cannot wait to see the new Dumb and Dumber film. It hits theaters in two weeks!!! What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Mornings

Image
Happy Friday and Happy Halloween readers, how has your week been? What are you plans for this weekend? Any parties for the holiday? I'm looking forward to hopefully cool weather, trying a new soup recipe, flower shopping, girl time with friends, getting outside and soaking in the information overload from this past work week. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you next week.

On the Nighstand

Image
The back corner of my bedroom right next to the window is my favorite spot when I want to curl up with a good book, catch up with my favorite blogs, take a catnap and do schoolwork. And since I refer to this small corner as my little nook, I like it looking neat, clean and pretty. These are just a few of my favorites and essentials that are sitting on my nightstand. This Jane Austen candle is a must and a fantastic small gift for a friend. What is on yours? (1,2,3,4,5,6,7)

You + Me

Image
1. Fall or Spring Fashion?  I don't know what it is about fall fashion; but hats, heavy scarves, chunky knit sweaters, boots, dark shades of nail polish and berry colored cross-body bags scream my name. When I moved to the mid-west for college, I could not wait to go shopping for ear muffs and leather gloves and colorful mittens. Walking through brisk and chilly weather bundled up makes me sublimely happy.
2. What book is on your nightstand? I recently ordered Travelogue by Lucy and Knisley and New York Diaries edited by Teresa Carpenter. I'm really excited to dive into the newest Lucy Knisley comic. I love her work and highly recommend her two other books, French Milk and Relish.
3. What motto do you live by?  "Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn."

My Chair Crush

Image
When it comes to accent pieces, my mom has excellent taste in home decor. Our styles may be completely different, but the love for pretty and polished homes is something all the women in my family share. Even though my mother and I have clashing tastes in interior design, there are a few particular pieces that come to mind from my childhood home that I will always love. In our living room, my mom has this beautiful accent chair that I've always admired but can never remember where she got it. The thing I want the most is an old rustic looking mirror. My mom found a re-purposed mirror that use to be a window from a Parisian Train Station in a boutique just down the street. Yes, it sounds just as lovely as it looks. While my mind is constantly thinking of ways to decorate the living room, I am having a Chair Crush over at One Kings Lane shop. With many nights spent perusing all these fantastic styles, these are the final few I have come to love. Need a fun and new accent piece, hea…

Living Quarters

Image
With so much home inspiration from magazine clippings, home design books and home improvement bloggers, my mind is in many directions when it comes to my home. I wish I could hire an interior decorator to help me make decisions and find what my style truly is. Until then, I'm totally loving the living space in this brownstone :)  Any recommendations or suggestions in a right direction? (images via apartment therapy)

Pumpkins and Glitter

Image
After a very successful day of games, scary stories and giving away prizes for the best costume at this weekend's Halloween festival held at the library, I was excited to have a low key Sunday morning. With a few crafts in mind, I had a few hours to play with glitter and a bag full of baby pumpkins. Although my home craft corner may be small, I always make sure to have thisthese and a pair of nice scissors on hand. And since you can never go wrong with glitter, I found this simple, easy and glam way to decorate pumpkins this year. With a lot of home do-it-yourself projects in the works, Raise has become my new favorite internet find. With holidays and birthdays sneaking up, I'm finding gift cards are the way to go. Now I can spend my weekends decorating/working on crafts and projects. If you are in need of ideas for gifts but have no idea what to do or where to go, check out all the great brands that are featured on their site

Friday Showings

Image
With my love for WWII literature and film, I really want to see the movie, Fury because everyone is talking about it and I'm so out of what's new in film and television right now. My dad and sister saw it last weekend and have nothing but good things to say about it. With an all star cast, I plan on seeing it sometime this week. What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Mornings

Image
What is everyone up to this weekend? I'm excited for the library's Halloween day this Saturday, we're dressing up, hosting games, crafts, scary stories and a costume contest.  Spoiler: I'm dressing up as Fancy Nancy, my costume is outrageous and adorable! Outside of  Halloween festivities, I'll be enjoying a comedy show, a poetry reading with friends, partaking in The Style Cure and getting psyched for the Tycho concert with my guy this weekend. I'll be a busy bee but I'm looking forward to a great weekend with friends and my guy. Have a great weekend and see you all next week :)

All my mind wants to think about lately is home improvement and do it yourself projects. I've been watching HGTV marathons when going to sleep, referring to all my home/decor books and thinking how to make my space my very own. I'm finally getting around to arranging my tiny kitchen, finding a way to make the bathroom a place of zen and browsing the floral shops. What home projects are you working on?

All You Need Is A Library and Garden

Image
If you are at all like me and know close to nothing when it comes to planting and taking care of a garden, these are fantastic books to add to your flower library collection. These gardening experts give great advice for those who have no yard, are creating plant life on a fire escape and helping you remember all the types of plants and flowers there are :)

Hazel Planters

Image
When my sister-in-law finds time for relaxation in her busy schedule (she's finishing her Ph. D in Biology), she is excitedly working on her home/decor and gardening shop over at Etsy. With a passion for home improvement, I'd say Sarah's style is West Elm meets Anthropologie, classic and chic with a modern twist. Which means, whenever I get a chance to visit my brother and his wife, she and I could spend hours talking about home do-it-yourself projects and home decorating blogs. And since I've recently moved, I have been waiting by the door for my first order from her shop!!! She is so good, she has already been scouted by a local shop wanting to sell her planters as well as taking part in a local event. Make sure to check out Hazel Planters and see what she has in store for you :)

History Lessons

Image
So maybe the latest film adaption of Pompeii starring Emily Browning and Kit Harington was not the greatest movie, but for natural disaster catastrophic historical movies it was totally a guilty pleasure for me. Lately I have been binging the history channel, the travel channel and reading and looking through my college history and art history books to satisfy my urge of wanting to travel and explore. With so many things to see and do, visiting The Temple of Vesta on the eastern side of the Roman Forum is something on my bucket list. All temples to Vesta were built in circular form (with Corinthian Columns) where the entrances faced east symbolizing the connection between Vesta's fire and sun as sources of life. Being one of the earliest structures in the Roman Forum, the structure was used for many reasons but most importantly it was the home to the statue of Minerva (Greek Goddess, Athena) which was brought from Troy.

The Daily Escape

Image
In the mood for complete relaxation and a trip where I can spend hours in museums, food markets, cathedrals and walking along small and winding European city streets, Italy is calling my name. Calabria, Italy to be exact. A vacation meant for nothing other than soaking up Ancient Roman History, lots and lots of gelato, margherita pizza, contemplating art and being romanced by a beautiful language.  Isn't this view gorgeous? What are you dreaming about?

When it comes to Social Media, I am more likely to check what's happening on Instagram than other outlets when on my breaks at work or enjoying my scone time at the cafe. And while I only follow my closest friends, the rest of the people I follow are not celebrities or my favorite athletes. I love to see what's going on behind the scenes of some of my favorite blogs, brands and magazines. These are just a few suggestions I'd like to pass along for anyone new to the platform :)

Gadget Girl

Image
With a new space that needs a lot of love, these gadgets help it look and feel a little more cozy. A few kitchen musts that cut down on cooking time, the veggie steamer and herb mill are fantastic additions for dinnertime. This adorable pink instant film camera and green radio are perfect by the pool to capture a quick family pic and listening to tunes. Small and easy to maneuver, don't forget to take them on a road trip with friends. What are some of your favorite gadgets?
