Happiness Is...

Image
What makes you over the moon happy? Go ahead, grab a notepad and jot down the first ten things that come to mind that make you feel particularly good this morning!!! I promise you'll feel so much better. Then when you get home later today stick it to your fridge so you see it often. Perhaps when you're feeling not so happy...just keep it in a place you walk by constantly and hopefully it will brighten your day and make you smile :)

Searching

Image
Lately I've been having some pretty deep and meaningful conversations with people, spending a lot of time thinking and sharing what matters the most in our lives. I've always been a philosophical person, I've known it since I was about eight years old, I get it from my dad. I'm one of those people who is full of passion, energy and curiosity, I'm constantly thinking, contemplating and questioning really heavy and full of life topics with my friends and well...myself. I spend a lot of time looking at the world, curious about all the towns, villages and cities and the people in them. I imagine a woman my age waking up in Mumbai, a young girl taken from her family who is now a victim to the sex trade,  I wonder what her day will be like and what she thinks about, if she ever has hope.  I can't help but think about the thousands of young adults my age graduating from college, afraid and losing hope of finding jobs in their intended fields and paying off their neve…

Desktop Books

Image
When I'm looking for inspiration I immediately turn to books, I guess it's just the librarian in me. Which is why my desk tends to be the home of where many of my books reside. In pursuit of cleaning my desk area and making it an actual work space, I find these books most fitting to keep on display and to use as a quick reference when I'm need of a little help. What's on your desk this moment?

Clean + Pretty

Image
When it comes to workspace that most likely means I'm in the middle of a tornado of books surrounding me on the floor or in bed. In school, I made a rule of going to the library when it came to writing papers and studying. I was always at a desk so I had a lot of space to work  with. In an effort to get out of the bed and off the floor, I'm working towards turning my desk into a better workspace. Eventually I'd like to have an actual room dedicated to more organization and turning it into my own pretty space. What's your working situation, do you leave the house and head to the library, do you work at home in your pajamas and in bed?

Saturday Happy

Image
I first came across this video close to a year ago when a friend had recommended I watch it. In conversations with friends, family, coworkers and classmates this video is incredibly powerful and is right on, social media aims at creating a community of people but really it leaves us feeling more lonely and depressed. I found this piece in The New York Times to be really interesting. It's a conversation to have and to think about. What does technology means in our culture, society and what does it means to each generation! I wanted to share it with you and hear your thoughts, so what's making you happy this week?

Friday Showing

Image
A month ago I found the entire book collection of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City at a used bookstore, (jackpot!!) so I had to snatch it up before someone else did. I read the first in the series when I found out the local library had all three dvd sets of the show that aired on PBS early in the nineties, needless to say this weekend will be spent enjoying this classic. What are you watching over the weekend?!

Friday Mornings

Image
Good morning chickies, it's barely May and it's already hitting the nineties here, seriously?!?! I think we're about to enter one brutal summer but until then I'll be wrapping up my last full semester (but also be preparing for my defense and thinking about graduation), working on some fun crafts and do-it-yourself projects, love, admire and be envious of the bedroom and pretty, pretty bedding, work more on revamping the blog (as you can already see, a major work in progress) starting my summer reading list and enjoying the eighty degree weather before hell arrives.  What are you up to this weekend, whatever you do I hope you have a good one :)

this week's favorites

Image
Although spring is in the air, it's really starting to feel more like summer here in Palm Springs. Lounging, reading by the pool while catching rays and getting in some laps sounds like an excellent day to me. With spring, comes a massive deep clean of everything in my home, flowers taking over every surface, continuing my love for copper and adding it to my hair routine and indulging in waffles because I can't seem to get them out of my mind! Happy Friday everyone :)

Drink More Tea

Image
I'd like to call myself a tea connoisseur but I know nothing up against the experts. All I know is that I hoard it, it's taking over my cupboard space and that I could drink it all day, every day, hot or cold :) I'm always open to trying new brands and new flavors so when I was introduced to The English Tea Shop, I couldn't help but get it in large part to the adorable packaging. Going home and immediately making myself a cup of tea, I went back for more and more and decided to do a little research on the company. Head over here and check out their brand, learn about their mission and get some for yourself. Hint: It's hiding on the shelves at your local T.J.Maxx!!!

Learning Tea Basics

Image
If there is one thing I could be an expert in it would be tea. I started drinking it in college and before I knew it, I couldn't go without a cup in the morning. But now it's evolved into an entire cupboard of tea sets, coffee mugs and hoarding problem. With a Teavana not far from my home, I actually learned you can set up time with a worker and have one on one time for new tea drinkers and the art of perfecting the drink! I'm already looking into a meeting and saving up to get the right equipment to steep some loose leaf and perfect tea time.

Earth Baby

Image
If there is one thing I know to be true about myself, it is that I am a true Earth Baby. I have this great passion and appreciation for living on such a beautiful planet and it's one (of many) mission that I hold dearly to my heart. In the first environmental biology class I took in middle school, I new right away I was a nerd-it was like I couldn't absorb enough information, I needed more! I wanted to be a part of a club that went into town to clean up the community, take field trips to learn about how to keep our oceans clean and free from toxic waste and human trash, I wanted to learn about water conservation (and on and on). It was no surprise that when I went to college, I excelled in my classes and instantly joined the environmental club and geeked out in our lively discussion and debates. So how do you show the earth you're taking care of her?!

You and Me

Image
Lately with the feeling of being drained from the excess schoolwork due to it being the last three weeks of school, (ahhhhh) all I kind of want to do is bum around and be a little lazy. I want to veg out on ice cream and call it a day by cuddling up, napping, listening to the latest Ingrid Michaelson album and enjoy my quiet spring afternoons. What's going on with you and how do you spend your lazy time?
1. What book would you recommend to friends, family, coworkers? A coworker recommended this adorable children's book titled (although equally appropriate for adults) God got a Dog by Cynthia Rylant last week. Needless to say I couldn't just check it out from the library, I had to go and buy it (I want to buy like fifty copies and send it to everyone). It's a book that should forever sit on your night stand.
2. Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: It often goes back and forth between Cookies and Cream and Mint Chocolate Chip, at this particular moment in time I'm leaning tow…

Drinks Are On Me

Image
My drink of choice into these hotter months will be The Frenchy :)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Pear Vodka 3 oz Pineapple Juice 1 oz Cranberry Juice
In a chilled rocks glass filled with ice, add your vodka and pineapple juice. Top with a splash of cranberry juice. Voila, a light and refreshing drink!!!

Girl Walks Into A Bar

Image
It's the end of the semester and this girl needs a night out on the town, a night where she doesn't have to think about papers, projects, exams or lectures. It's time to go out and enjoy an evening with the girls for a drink and catching up or taking your guy out for a couple beers and to watch a game. How do you decompress after school or work? Where's the local scene in your hometown? How often do you try out new bars? I don't do it enough but with more time to relax and enjoy a light load of school work this summer, I plan to change that over the next few months  :)

Friday Showings

Image

Friday Mornings

Image
Hello everyone how has your week been? It's starting to really warm up which is good and bad. I sooo need a tan, my ghostly white skin needs color but I am so not ready for triple digit weather :/ School will officially be over in four weeks and my feelings about being a student are bitter sweet.  This is my last semester that is a full course load and by this time next spring, I'll be getting ready to defend my portfolio and be graduating. So, it's time I got down to business and wrap up this semester with solid grades and catch some serious z's (loving this zen, simple and wooded finish bedroom)!!! Have a fantastic weekend and see everyone Monday morning :)
