Things To Do This Summer

Image
Whether you have a shed in the backyard or not, I love the idea of building your own sanctuary in the backyard. A little den, reading nook, office, man cave, whatever your heart desires make it your own space where you can enjoy some quiet time. And if you have kids and want to make it a summer project, get the whole family involved in making the coolest backyard/tree house ever.

Friday Showing

Image
Have you seen the latest disaster movie, San Andres? It was our Father's Day outing last weekend, a Sunday afternoon well spent. A pretty decent cast and the complete destruction of San Francisco, I have to say it is definitely one of my favorite disaster films...just behind Twister :) What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Morning

Image
It's officially summer and all I can think about is my massive book list I need to start on and moving to the coast. It's only the third week of June and the hottest day so far has been 112 degrees!!! I need to get out of here!!! I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with my sister working on a few fun projects, staying cool, kicking back and playing with my dogs. What are your plans for the weekend? Can you believe next week is already July, summer is going by way to fast??

Things to do This Summer

Image
Start off your summer with gathering a group of friends and family members, take over the popular Karaoke Bar in town and host a Lip Sync Battle. Beer, good tunes, great company and lots of laughter, it's going to be a fantastic start to your summer. Make it a weekly or monthly event and have a blast :)

Five Things To Love About Summer

Image
Five Things to Love About Summer:
1. Growing up in Southern California, there is nothing better or more relaxing than a trip to the beach. Hauling a packed car full of beach towels, foldout chairs, a cooler and snacks, arguing over which song to play during the drive (I'll never forget the trip where my sister begged and cried for my dad to play TheBodyguard soundtrack) plus the endless toys for the little ones, a weekend or an extended stay near the coast is quintessentially summer.
2. Hosting movie nights ideally projected on a large screen in the backyard with friends on old family quilts with appetizers and desserts. Now that my kind of night :)
3. Now I am not suggesting to purposely go out and make trouble, but summer means being a little footloose and fancy free. (Think Squints in The Sandlot: being banned from the public pool for trying to kiss the lifeguard). As soon as my sister and I would wake up during the summer months it meant getting to our friends pool as fast…

Friday Showings

Image
Unlike me, you were probably already watching the premiere of the third season of Orange is the New Black last Thursday evening. A week late, I will probably have this show finished by the end of the weekend. How is it so far? Incredible?! What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Morning...

Image
Hello and Happy Friday readers, besides the awesome mood I am in from a very successful first week of library activities, I am exhausted. So I am especially looking forward to the weekend and not having any kind of plans except for possibly seeing Jurassic World, again. What are you plans?

Bored Jar

Image
Now that it is summer vacation and already reaching triple digits, everyone and their dogs are heading to the library to escape the heat. And since the Summer Reading Program officially started this past week, in an effort to make our space a little more homey and welcoming I love the idea of having this "Bored Jar"at my desk.  So to fight boredom and invigorate creativity and imagination with our kids, I am having way to much fun filling this jar and giving kids ideas of things to do other than plugging into a screen all summer. If you're interested in making one of these for around the house, think of these activities when planning: outdoor activities-climb a tree, quiet activities-read a book, family activities-game night, things to do-build a boat out of lunchables... Have fun and get creative :)

Summer at the Library

Image
With over a hundred people signing up for our library's summer reading program and a hundred and thirty people showing up to the very first activity this week, I'm not only exhausted but over the moon ecstatic that summer is off to a fantastic start. With musical Olympic games, giving away free books, making musical art and instruments out of water bottles and teaching chop sticks on a gigantic floor piano, make sure to attend whatever is going on at your local library this summer because it's music themed. We're dancing and exercising to Shake it Off by Taylor Swift (obviously), reading how Arthur (by Marc Brown) met the Backstreet Boys and our staff has a fun little treat in store in a few weeks that includes some pretty sweet dance moves.

Drinks Are On Me

Image
It's only the third week of June and it's literally 112 degrees out, I cannot handle this extreme heat so early in the summer. A day after work mean getting my swerve on and this spritzer sounds pretty excellent.
Ingredients:  3 oucnes Lillet blanc, chilled 2 1/2 ounces natural Pomegranate or Raspberry Lemonade, chilled 1 ounce St. Germain Liquor 2 ounce soda water, chilled.
Mix well and enjoy :)

The Daily Escape

Image
Since I've been watching a ton of summer and beachy movies lately, all I can think about is somewhere like Hawaii or the Caribbean. Time for relaxing, basking in the sun and no interruptions, I plan on making my first vacation after the Summer Reading Program a sandy one. What are you summer vacation plans?

Friday Morning...

Image
Good morning readers, it's already scorching hot here and a little unbearable, all I want to do is hang by the pool, drink margaritas and stay up late painting my nails chatting with my sister. While I'm prepping for the Summer Reading Program next week and camping out for the new Jurassic World movie, I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.
