Check Out The Z!

A few months ago my mother was telling me about an article she read in Southern Lady Magazine about two young twenty year old sisters Brittany and Annie Zeleskey. They're both from Texas and after graduating from college at the University of Mississippi they ended up staying and opened up this charming bed and breakfast, The Z in Oxford, Mississippi. While the sisters manage and run the inn, mom helped to create the French country decor and atmosphere while their grandmother shared her talents by making the bedspreads, pillows and most of the curtains! Now I've never been to Mississippi but after reading the article not only did I feel inspired but I immediately added it my many places to go and see list.

TV Movies

Who remembers the ABC Family Original Movie, This Time Around? I grew up watching ABC Family and loved their made for television romcom movies, this one being one of my favorites! During my teen years, I wanted to be Carly Pope's character in this movie. Of course I can't find it anywhere to watch, if anyone knows of a site where I can watch please let me know. Who else grew up on these great chick flicks?!

One Year Mark!!!!

I can't believe it has already been a year since I started this here little blog; so to making it through a whole year, Happy Birthday Belleista! I remember like it was yesterday: after handing in my senior composition for review I had wanted to start a blog to showcase my anthropology/archaeology writings (since my professor did encourage me to continue writing about controversial and debatable archaeological subjects-yes I am that big a nerd, but I embrace it). However, my blog became an extension of my personality and a way for me to file my daily inspirations. Now I cannot imagine going a day without sharing my thoughts with the world.

I never thought...no wait let me back up, I didn't even know how blogging really worked! For me it was just an outlet to post what I had learned in class (or in talking with my friends) or had stumbled across in my daily ventures. However, this blog has become an important part of my day. I have grown to love my amazing followers and look forward to reading your comments (and reading your blogs) and getting back to you all. Thank you so much for reading and commenting, I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to see what you have to say here on my blog!

Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving is most definitely my favorite holiday (besides Halloween and Christmas) not only for the delicious food but this time of year always makes me slow down and realize what's most important in my life. Growing up Thanksgiving meant driving an hour to my aunts house where she made her fabulous Thanksgiving dinner. I'm sorry to say but no-one can touch my aunt's food. She is one fantastic cook! For the last five years since I have been away at college I have been going to boyfriends families dinners or the cafeteria Thanksgiving dinner and they just didn't cut it.  This year I'm so excited to be heading to Aunt Jackie's to celebrate and hang out with the family. My favorite dishes include the one and only broccoli and rice casserole (my mom's is the best), cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and (my grandma's homemade) gravy, tons of buttered rolls, turkey, turkey, turkey and my grandma's infamous pumpkin pie! What are you all doing for this Thanksgiving Holiday?

Celebrations

Today, I'm 24 (YAY!!!) What do you do on your special day? Is it just you and your family, you and friends, you and your significant other? Do you treat yourself or do you let others pamper you? As for me, I love to spend the day with family and close friends.
I started my day at a fantastic little French restaurant and sat outside and enjoyed peopple watching (all the snowbirds are in, so its fun to see all people from the Canada and Michigan bask in the sun like they are at the beach). My afternoon I treated myself to a haircut, a manicure and a massage. I ended my night at Cafe Italia, a small hole in the wall Italian restaurant with a singing staff! What is better than Italian food, wine and music?!

Everything's Quiet When It Snows...

My first two years being on my own at college, having it snow was like a big treat for me. It wasn't like I had never seen it, but the first heavy snowfall my freshman year, a friend down the hall had called me at three in the morning and told me to meet her in front of the dorm in the quad. By the time I had made it downstairs and outside she had already been working on making the base of the snowman. She smiled at me and said "didn't you say you have always wanted to make a snowman". By my sophomore year, it had become tradition. The first snowfall I'd make a snowman, go "sledding" on the cafeteria trays and curl up with a blanket and tea to watch the Gilmore Girls. The years following that, this became a tradition my sister and I shared once she came to Saint Mary's and we lived together.

A few days ago my sister who is now a senior in college text me saying it had snowed and was waiting for me to curl up to Gilmore Girls with her. I immediately responded that I actually missed Indiana. Nothing beats walking through the snow on a blissful quiet evening on a college campus as beautiful as Saint Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana. Taking a break from studying and going outside all bundled up in leggings, legwarmers, uggs and jackets and watching the snowflakes dance across the sky so daintily and freely, it was like witnessing a miracle, it was that spectacular for me. Do any of you love the snow as much as I do?!
