Friday Showings

Image
I have been waiting for Maleficent since last summer when the photos of Angelina Jolie as the evil villain leaked on the internet. With a love for fairy tales and folklore and the modern take on them in the hit shows like Once Upon A Time and Grimm, my geek status is in full force now that Maleficent is out. What are you watching this week?

Friday Mornings

Image
May has seriously gone by in a flash., am I wrong? With finals over and grades turned in, I can finally de-stress and be in a peace of mind.  And after having spent a full week in New York visiting my sister, it feels good to be home. I've gotten the chance to sleep in a bit, waller my sheets, catch up on my pleasure reading and cuddled with my dog, he needs all the attention he can get. I have no plans other than to finish up a few work projects and get my tan on this weekend, what are you up to this weekend?

Warmer weather means up-dos like this pretty low bun, lots and lots of white and pink roses, flattering one piece swimsuits and everything in floral prints. Happy Friday :)

Do It Yourself Rope Rug

Image
I've been wanting to learn to sew for awhile now but haven't had the time to dedicate hours to the beautiful art that sewing is. My sister started making a few of her own clothing creations that I seriously loved, my grandmother was a master at it and this here little rope rug kick started my fascination with it. I don't why, but I think it's classic, girly and super fun. So after I've learned how to actually use a machine, I can't wait to try recreating this gem and call it my very own.

Try Something New

Image
When it comes to the list of things that makes me happy, trying something new is a high priority on that list. I've never been very domestic...meaning I can barely cook, I cannot sew or tend a garden. As my schooling is starting to slow down, (which by the way I can't stop saying that I will be done forever with school this time next year) I've been thinking about all that extra down time that I've dedicated to studying and testing for the seven years. Having been in the blogging world for four years, I've come across countless recipes and quite a few do-it-yourself projects, a few that I'd like to try my hands at. That is why this summer, I've come up with a list of projects I'd like to work on....one being sewing. My grandmother loved sewing and I'm sure she tried teaching me a thing or two but it clearly didn't stick. With a particularly special sewing machine in mind, I've already started checking out local classes to try out. What keep…

Superga Sneakers

Image
There's nothing more summery than a nice pair of sneakers. I grew up wearing Converse and Keds and clearly remember thinking I was the epitome of cool in my short faded overalls and pink Keds going into the last month of school. Now as a twenty something girl, I'm still a fan of my favorite white and grey chucks. I've even considered getting myself a basic pair of navy Keds, as reminder of my youth and my love for blue. With Superga back in style, I'm instantly reminded of my mother's love with the brand, she had them in red, white and blue and she wore them to death.  I'm having fun looking through all the colors and patterns, check them out over at the site or at Nordstrom :)

Take A Walk With Me

Image
When I lived in the city over three years ago I rarely used public transportation. I felt like I was missing a huge part of living in the city if I didn't walk and I'll admit I didn't want to use what little spending money I had on cab-fare. This recent trip to New York, I remembered to do just that, enjoy the walk. I spent my time strolling block after block, taking in every detail of the pristine neighborhoods of the upper east side, the scaffolding that seems to define the city and stumbling across hole in the wall boutiques and cafes. There were places I noticed that were no longer there and with something else in it's spot. As sore and tired as I maybe now seven days later, it was worth it because I noticed and remembered what was there before. Walking down any street and looking into the windows of a building or brownstone home, there is history, there is a story for every person who worked, slept and lived in that building, you know there is story waiting to be…

P.S. Book Clutches

Image
When Kate Spade first started making their book clutches I wanted to buy up all of them, they were perfect and well fitting for me since I'm, you know working on becoming a librarian. Which by the way I'll be graduating next May, seriously where has the time gone, I feel like I started yesterday!!! Anyways, then I came across these over at P.S. Besitos, the most adorable site I've visited in a while. Treat yourself to something fun and girly today, you deserve it :)

Saturday Happy

Image
I read this short article about nine books every graduate should read. Having most of them, I had never heard of This is Water by David Foster Wallace, a great author and philosopher who unfortunately died in 2008. I couldn't help but get the remaining four books I didn't have in the list and followed up with watching the nine minute video titled This Is Water. So grab your computer or iPad and watch, then read the short book with the same title and tell yourself, David Foster Wallace is genius! What's making you happy this week :)

Friday Morning

Image
Hello, hello everyone!!! I hope your week has been cheerful and happy. After spending some time this week recovering from the events from this past weekend, I've been stomping pavement in the city and spending some time with my family in New York. With a hop, skip and a little dance I'm taking in the lower temperatures and devoting a little shopping time and a few quiet afternoons to myself to visit my favorite museums.  I'm enjoying a little time just me and the city. I'm up bright and early, ready to hit the streets and inhaling that Manhattan air. I'm not sure what is planned for the weekend, so I'll let you be on your merry way and we'll catch up next week :)

Being the paper source queen that I am, my desk is currently filled to the brim with stationary, an assortment of pens, markers and pencils and plenty of notepads and personalized stationary sets. But I have to say, nothing comes close to Anna Bond's creations, the founder of Rifle Paper Co. Enjoy perusing her site and have a great weekend.

Sarah Loves Her Sweets

Image
When it comes to sweets I bypass chocolates and candy and go straight for sorbet and popsicles. I found this recipe for Lime and Raspberry Sangria Popsicles and had to share it with you. Doesn't this sound absolutely perfect and a tasty summery treat?!
Ingredients: 6 Ounces Raspberries2 Limes1 Cup Sugar1 ⅓ Cups Robert Mondavi Fumé Blanc
Instructions: Add the 6 ounces of raspberries to a small sauce pan, sneaking a few. I mean, raspberries are freaking in season and these organic berries are delicious. Okay, mash them quickly before you eat them all!
Add 1/2 cup of the sugar to the raspberries (eating one more ain’t gonna hurt nobody!) and then warm the mixture over a medium-low heat, until it just begins to bubble. This helps combine the sugar with the raspberries. Now remove them from thestove and let them cool. DON’T EAT ANYMORE! That was really more for me than you.
In a large measuring cup (one that at least holds 4 cups), juice the two limes. Notice my restraint on not eating th…

Right Around the Corner

Image
With summer just around the corner and the temperature rising, I'm already grabbing my favorite white frayed shorts, the neon nail polish and indulging in popsicles as afternoon treats. The snowbirds are gone which means quiet afternoons and hotel pools all to myself. With a book in hand and a swim suit underneath my clothes, I'm ready to relax and enjoy the longer days. I have a few do-it-yourself projects set aside to tend to over the next three months and get in some serious laps. What are your plans as we enter June?!

Leave Me in the Park

Image
Every time I visit the city I always create a list of places I want to see. Not necessarily touristy places and things but my own list of destinations. My last trip it was all about this mission I had to go into every independent bookstore I came across and decide which was the best. This trip, it's cafes and parks....and if there's one place I haven't spent enough time it is in Central Park. To really get to know every inch of this park, I feel it could take months to know all the best spots in Central Park. This time, I'll be spending time along the east side and getting to know the park a little better. Where's your happy place and where are some of your favorite places in the park?

The Daily Escape

Image
One of my favorite places in New York City is Bryant Park. It was in this park where I decided what my career was going to be and it was the first place where I really saw the beauty of the city. There were many mornings and afternoons where wandered the famed New York Public Library and enjoyed my favorite Tomato Basil Soup from across the street at Hale and Hearty and just sat and watched the New York City folk. The next time your in the city, take a few minutes of your stay and enjoy one of my favorite spots in all New York.

Something Old Into Something New

Image
As much as I'd like to admit to being a clean and organized person, my closet can get a little out of control. With my collection of outfits and favorite pieces, shoes galore and purses that need their own closet space, I clean out my closet like every two weeks. Many times, when I'm in the cleaning process I'll come across something I haven't worn in a while and am reminded how awesome a top or dress is. I bought this Topshoppeplum a few years ago and I still love it. It's time to haul it out and get snazzy. What's one of your favorite pieces that you'll never part with.

This guy officially takes the best selfie as he travels around the world on his motorcycle and with a Go Pro Camera. Check out thirty six countries in three minuets, this video certainly made my Saturday, what's making you happy this week? :)

Friday Shows

Image
Every year around the beginning of summer, I retreat to watching my favorite episodes of Samantha Brown's Passport to Europe. Being in the history (and anthropology) mood I've been in the last week and half, The Mummy just sounded so spot on (I also consider it a top twenty favorite). What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Mornings

Image
Good morning readers, I don't have many words for you today as I've lost a pet and a family member within the last five weeks. This morning is dedicated to spending time and celebrating the fact that they are in a better place. I'm sending lots of love to all of you since I really don't know who you are and what you face in your daily lives. I don't know your tragedies or happy moments so I'm sending out into the world all the love I have. I hope you have a good weekend, I hope it is full of joy, laughter and family time.
