Friday Mornings

Image
Hello my readers, how are you doing this week? I'm finally home after a perfectly relaxing and fun filled trip to New York. Spending some time getting to know the city again, hanging out with my sister and celebrating with my sister-in-law made for one great weekend and certainly one I'll never forget. I'm practically done catching up from my jet lag (this bed reminds me of my sweet pea shabby chic bedding from college, oh how I miss you), submitted a beast of an assignment and am looking forward to playing with a few of my treats that I gifted myself while away and spending some time with my guy this weekend. What are you up to this weekend?

Morning Playlist

Image
Ever since I can remember, music has always been very much a part of the morning ritual in my house. And anyone who knows me and my family knows this because my father tends to get caught fairly easily. From singing along to music (which he doesn't know very well) while exercising, sending karaoke videos clips via text message or email and constantly getting himself in trouble with my sneaky sister, I guess I inherit the music gene from him. I know better than to do anything too silly for fear of my sister catching me on camera, I love to belt it in the car and dance in pj's come morning while getting ready for work. Need some upbeat music, well here you go!

The Music Lounge

Image
Being the music lover I am and all the time I use to spend on music websites, I find huge amounts of joy spending hours coming across new artists, listening to tunes I haven't listened to in a while and creating three hour long playlists for friends and myself. With the arrival of Ingrid Michaelson's new album due in a few months, I'm already listening to and loving her first two singles off the album, Lights Out. Who do you love, what are you listening too, want to swap playlists? My ears are craving something new to listen too :)

Kate At A Wedding

Image
A close friend getting married anytime soon? I have an excellent list that includes some of my favorite shops for searching for something special for the bride but my go to source for shopping is obviously Kate Spade. Extremely feminine, ultra chic and a little something fun! What about this adorable Happily Ever After Passport Holder or jewelry collection. You can never wrong with Kate at a wedding.

Kate on Madison

Image
While in New York over the weekend there was no question when it came time to visit one of my favorite spots in the city, the Kate Spade Flagship on Madison Avenue. Over the years my list of must-see places centered on historical and cultural institutions. Where shopping hot spots like dear Kate Spade remained somewhere in the middle. This past trip was dedicated to bookshops I fell in love when I lived in the city two years ago, a few of my favorite designer shops and some places my sister was dying to take me too. With my brother getting married in a month, my sister and I couldn't help but play around with some fun and tempting pieces to gift them. I've already created a list of things to get them, now I just need to narrow it down.

When It Comes to Candles...

Image
What can I say, I'm a candle fiend. I have at least ten floating around my bedroom alone, they sit on bookshelves, end tables, nightstands and dressers. Oh and I keep one burning at all times when home, who doesn't love a hint of something fresh smelling. For the most part I stick to subtle fragrances but Lavender remains my absolute favorite scent, Lilac and Rose a close second and third.  I could give a list a mile long of what I consider 'the essentials' but I've narrowed my list down to my top five. Have suggestions or any recommendations to add to my list? Please share :)

Le Labo

Image
I first started noticing Le Labo prodcuts scrolling through my Instagram feed. I simply loved the fresh and clean label and the ultra cool technique of personalizing each candle and fragrance. After seeing it more and more I made it my mission to find the Nolita location while I was staying in New York this past week. It only took a few minutes for me to realize this place was my heaven. The scents, the decor, the location and the super awesome workers, next time I'll be making a purchase for myself. I ended up getting a little something for my mom, I already know she's going to love it.

Saturday Happy

Image
If you would have asked me about Lush Products six months ago, I would have had no clue what you were talking about. My sister introduced the line to me by surprising me with top rated soaps, bath bombs and lotions for my birthday back in November. Four months later, hanging out at the Lush counter with my sister will become a visiting ritual when I come to see her. The best part, they have a spa!!! When I book my next flight, I'll be checking myself into an afternoon at the spa :) What's making you happy this week?

Friday Mornings

Image
Good morning from New York City! Coming from extremely warm weather in the desert to forty degree weather here in the city has certainly put a little kick in my step and a smile on my face. With layers of coats, scarves and blush beanies, I look like a little snow bunny. How's your week been going so far? It's only been one day of being in the city and pavement stomping is in full force. Everywhere from Lush to the Argosy Book Shop, I'm one happy gal. Getting to spend some time with my sister and preparing for one awesome bachelorette party here in the city tomorrow, I'm totally psyched. What are you up to this weekend, whatever you're up too I hope you have a fab weekend!!!

Library Approved

Image
As you all know I have a serious thing for tortoise and have since I was little. So it was a no-brainer that my top choice frames would be tortoise colored, over-sized and certainly a statement to my wardrobe. Move over old and hello to my new librarian approved specs. Have you already checked out the Palm Canyon Collection over at Warby Parker, if you haven't done so, head on over this instant and check out their fabulous shades!  The collection clearly screams my name and I can't wait to get my hands on these Preston sunglasses :)

Warby Parker

Image
Ever since my little girl days and playing dress up from the pile of clothes my grandmother allowed my sister and I to play in, I'd snatch her extremely retro eye wear and try them on for myself. I'm pretty sure I looked ridiculous with a pair of over-sized tortoise frames sitting on my seven year old cheek bones but for whatever reason I simply loved wearing glasses. Although my near perfect eye sight doesn't exactly allow me to sport glasses, I'll admit when I got the job at the library I bought myself these  just so I could look the part. Maybe silly and a bit nerdy you better believe when the day comes when I do need reading glasses, I already have a few picked out over at my favorite shop, Warby Parker :)

On the Town

Image
A few weeks back I finally had a few minutes to just sit down and relax. I was scrolling through my Instagram feed where I came across a posting from a local Art Gallery there was going to be a live show of The Poor Decisions Podcast. Thinking I had already missed the show, someone instantly responded to my message and I found myself jumping off the bed and out the door. I didn't know much about the group to be honest but I was in the mood to go out and be social. Thanks to the what comes from Social Media, I ended up showing up a little early, found myself two rows back and enjoyed a great show filled with an array of hilarious poor decision stories, a one man music show and having a few minutes to personally meet the guys that make up the group. Extremely down to earth and genuinely nice guys, I'm excited to see them perform out here again. If you haven't heard them, I highly recommend listening to them now, check them out and follow them here, and make sure to sign up …

Laugh, Dance and Sing Your Heart Out

Image
These days you can listen to music, watch comedy shows from On Demand or Netflix and tune into podcasts straight from your phone or tablet. However, there's nothing like having the experience of attending a live performance. I've gone to concerts, comedy shows, live podcast viewings, musicals, plays, poetry and book readings and there's nothing better than being five feet from a performer and having the experience of being a part of the something. I recently read an article about the thirty seven things older people say they regret not doing, one of them being going to live venues. At the moment I can count on two hands everything I've seen been to but I'd like the get that number higher. What have you seen recently, have a list of things you want to see?

Everlane Tees

Image
Constantly on the lookout for the best basic tee, I think I finally found the right match for my style. I had first read about the Everlane brand in Verily Magazine. I was instantly hooked when I read 'high quality, well designed wardrobe basics at affordable prices." Michael Preysman, the founder of the company specializes in making the basics in everything from apparel (including cashmere sweaters to oxford button downs and silk blouses) to leather belts and the perfect weekend bag. See for yourself and head on over to your new favorite shop, Everlane :) When you see how great their prices are you know your cart will be full in no time!!!
