Daring Girls

My favorite artist of the moment is Noelle Stevenson! Well technically, I've been a fan for quite some time. Perhaps, it's because the fourth volume set of Lumberjanes came out a few weeks ago and I read through it in less than thirty minutes,  the story is a whirlwind of fun, adventurous and the illustration is just fantastic.  And since you all know I love this graphic novel series to pieces, I hope you pick up her books. From Nimona, her illustrations for Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (and other authors) and Lumberjanes, I cannot recommend her work enough, I love everything about this illustrator's artistic style. Make sure to check her out on her site.

Friday Morning

Hey readers, how has your summer been going?! I'm over the moon that it is finally the weekend! After two finale events and our last performance for the summer, I am beyond exhausted. I'm looking forward to a quiet and restful August at work, time for fall programming and saving my voice for everything we're gearing up for in September. But until then, this weekend is all about sleeping, healthy and light summer recipes and swimming. What are your weekend plans?

Do Your Thing

I use to dread going home after work because that meant getting back online and entering the classroom. There was nothing soothing about my evening. Dinner was always rushed and falling asleep while reading for an assignment was a regular occurrence. It's barely been two months since graduating and I already feel like a completely different person. I still have a lot to work on and I constantly have to remind myself to relax with my constantly busy schedule whether its work/blog related or trying to structure a productive evening. I realize now that time is precious and I don't want to waste a minute of it, so going with the flow is a little more than challenging during the week.

When I come home, I leave everything at the front door -  my keys, my shoes and whatever anxieties I have about work. I found a routine that works for me and acts like a meditation without closing my eyes and crossing my legs. After I kick off my shoes and think about the joy mentioned in Marie Kondo's book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, my mind is at ease. I head straight for the pool and kick back, I've read more books in the last two months than I've read in a year, I work on puzzles, I am way more conscious about what I eat, I've cleared out my entire apartment and the floors have never looked so clean or spacious. Coming home and looking into corners or spots where I used to pile up my belongings, it really elevates my mood, I'm not kidding!  Having time to find yourself and do the things you love is more than important, it's essential to leading a happy and healthy life. Now, when the work day is over, I can't wait to get home and do my thing.

The Daily Escape

I have been reading a lot of history/adventure quest books lately and they all seem to take place in and around Germany. And since everyone is posting about their overseas travels over social media, I'm dreaming about Germany - the castles, the villages, the festivals and food...do you know these facts about Germany?

1. 70% of German highways have no speed limit.

2. Germans are the second biggest consumers of beer in the world.

3. The biggest festival is called Oktoberfest, but starts in September.

4. In World War II, a German sub was sunk by a broken toilet.

5. Germans answer the phone with their surname instead of hello.

Friday Morning...

Seriously, thank god its Friday! I've been looking forward to the end of this week since it's been a bit of a crazy one. Tomorrow calls for a mini spa date with my sister and maybe a summer movie marathon and homemade burgers for the evening. I plan on being by the pool all day Sunday and reading this book a coworker recommended to me last week. What have you been up too lately?

Saturday Happy

In my research for fall collection development, I came across this charming new comic all about a new girl sleuth named Goldie Vance. With the charm of Eloise and the adventure in The Lumberjanes, the new Nancy Drew in town is pretty much a bad ass. I cannot wait to see whats in store for this comic :)

Friday Morning

Hey readers, how has your summer been? It's going by a little too fast for me, I've been enjoying busy days (actually crazy and hectic days) and low key evenings. I'm catching up with Game of Thrones, drawing, reading, going for walks, hitting the pool and spending way too much time on eBay looking for cute things to add to my apartment. I don't have much planned for the weekend other than to buy fresh flowers, start on a work (but fun) related project and to begin and finish a book for my book club next week. What have you been up to?! Any trips, long vacations, anything exciting?!

Five Things Around the House

Five Things I Always Do Around the House:
(And things I need to work on a little more)

 1. Never leave the dinner pans and dishes out overnight.
Since I have pots and pans that cannot be cleaned in the dishwater, I clean as I cook. By the time dinner is done, you don't have a big mess to clean up.  My mom taught me this trick.

2. Always dry dishes immediately instead of having a permanently filled dish rack.
With a a few old pots, I use to be bad about not completely drying lids and pans. The stained and dry water spots drive me crazy, so I'm trying to be better about drying and putting them away right after dinner.

3. Always keep a carafe of water on my bedside table in the evening.
I cannot go to sleep without having a glass of water. Between going up and down the stairs multiple times in the evening to refill my water, it's time to keep a carafe on my side table.

4. Pick up everything off the floor.
As a librarian, I am notorious for bringing a million books home every night. Leaned up against dressers, the bedside table and bookcases, I need to learn to only bring a few home at a time. I also take my shoes off near the doorway, I'm making more of an effort during my evening cleaning routine to pick up everything left on the floor.

5.   Do something relaxing that does not include a screen. I find this task to be a struggle. After my shower, I check all social media for thirty minutes and then I move on to my book, I color or draw or work on a puzzle.

What are a few things you do everyday around your house?!

this week's favorites...

the weekend is for being outside, rearranging and getting rid of stuff you don't need in your house, splurging in sweet treats and relaxing. I have no idea why because I normally hate doughnuts, but a maple bar is calling my name. What's your favorite doughnut flavor?
