Saturday Happy

Growing up in a household with a mother who had more catalogs than she knew what to do with, I eventually inherited her hoarding of print subscriptions. The amount of time and money put towards magazines and snail mail catalogs may be a tad bit ridiculous but I can't help spending a lazy Saturday afternoon to look through my favorites and highlight things to purchase and add to wishlists. I've been a long time fan of both The Vermont Country Store and Olive & Cocoa, so if you haven't yet gotten to know these sites go ahead and check them out! I've found some great treasure in these two catalogs in particular, do you have a favorite mail ordered catalog?! What's making you happy this week?

Beer Bottle Vases

When it comes to decorating, I try to blend feminine and masculine styles together. There's something so stylish and cool about mixing the two and creating a place where both you and your guy feel comfortable and at home, finding that medium is key! So the next time you have a get together with all your couple friends mix it up and create a nice ambiance with beer bottles as vases. Does your guy care to have a say in decorating your home?!

Saturday Happy

Have you checked out the latest collaboration between Target and Lauren Bush Lauren's feed project? I've been a long time fan of Lauren's bags and a her mission to feeding the the word through the quality products over on her site. I was ecstatic about her working with Target, creating a reasonably priced line and feeding America. I couldn't help myself but make a few purchases the last time I was in Target, knowing that somewhere in America, I myself contributed to feeding 50 people, how's that for a happy Saturday?! What's making you happy this week?

this week's favorites...

A children series I recently stumbled upon the other day that I love, love, love! I couldn't help but to check them all out and see what was so great about the adorable foxy sisters Zelda and Ivy-it instantly reminded me of my childhood and the relationship my sister and I shared as little girls. A must read for two young sisters!!

Kick Your Heels Up

Days off are great days, but how many of you actually take the day off and enjoy the scenery out your bedroom window or spend the day in your favorite chair, in lounge attire, with a good book and a refreshing drink (alcohol or not)? We usually spend these days running errands we don't get to during the week and working through the endless to-do list, am I wrong?! That is why I am spending my day off at home in my favorite yoga pants and tank top with a list that consists of one thing, spending much needed time with my dogs and cooking myself one great dinner complete with wine and a movie!!! Remember the simple pleasure in life are the most refreshing, hope you're having a relaxing and happy Thursday!

To The Mosque

Being a lover of history you would understand the excitement that came over me when Maria Rosa Menocal came to speak at my college after writing her latest book, The Ornament of the World, an account that focuses on the religious tolerance during Medieval Spain between the Muslims, Christians and Jews. Before her passing (only last year), I was lucky enough to hear her speak on her previous works about Spanish history, culture and the importance religion played in Spain. I quickly became intrigued and completely fascinated with this time period and what it was like to live in a society where religion was in constant collision with political leaders and religious groups trying to take over regions in the country. It was then I became enamored with the cathedrals and mosques in Cordoba and have ever since dreamed of one day stepping into these grand and eerily majestic wonders. I have promised myself that one day I will make it, so I can see before my very own eyes these buildings that stood here hundreds of years ago.

Weekend Wrap Up

grey and navy color-block: my summer go to.
a few new things like fresh scented candles and
lip colors but bringing back favorites like
este lauder's cyber ruby and brook's brother's
perfumes.
a low key and simple breakfast for the start
of the weekend.
sister's old kicks turned into my new
favorite chucks.
lunch turned into dessert quickly with the
triple digit heat.
under the weather weekends call for digging
through the mail for guilty pleasure lookbooks,
organizing and coming across old friends like
these gorgeous club monaco earrings, pearl
bobbi bins and my bright pink chanel lip color.
a weekend in bed calls for hair slicked back and
bringing the pouf back into action.

Friday Mornings

Hello lovelies, how has your week gone?! It's nothing short of toasty here so trying to avoid the humidity and extreme heat has been close to impossible. What are you plans for the weekend, I'll be working and staying indoors to keep cool while working on a few projects around the house. Keep cool and enjoy your weekend!!

Road Trip Tunes

When it comes to driving I can't go anywhere without music playing in the car; which is why creating playlists is a bi-monthly routine in my household. So finding the perfect mix of songs for a road trip (whether to the beach or across the country) is crucial, it sets the mood and atmosphere, so pick wisely so you don't put your friends to sleep. So, when I came across this mix of tunes flipping through the pages of my copy of Things We Love, I couldn't help but import the playlist into my iPod immediately. What's playing on your radio?!

My Cruisin' Playlist
Hold On Tight-Electric Light Orchestra
California Stars-Billy Bragg and Wilco

this week's favorites...

 Lake Michigan, Indiana
 Candlewood Lake, Connecticut
Redfish Lake, Idaho
Lake Tahoe, California
Moosehead Lake,Maine

As much as I'm a coastal beach girl from California I'm always up for heading to the lake. I've actually been to each of these lakes except for Candlewood Lake in western Connecticut. Aside from having spent a few precious childhood summers near Moosehead Lake in Maine, I've always dreamed about the scenery of the lakes on the east coast, the look so picturesque, don't ya think? After doing a little research, I'm definitely up for checking out Candlewood Lake. I hope you keep yourself cool this weekend and have a fab one!! See you Monday!!!
