Friday Movies

Not only was this timeless remake kind of a 90's classic, it kind of changed my life...no, seriously it did! Thank you Annie and Hallie for sending me off to Camp Walden for two of the most important summers of my young adult life. What was your favorite flick growing up?! Was it a hit during the decade you grew up in, or does it just bring back great memories from your childhood, I'd love to know!

Hopscotch and Double Dutch Ropes

As a student of Information Science, trying to grasp the fact that technology is an inevitable part of our daily routine, lifestyle and culture, I can honestly say I wish we didn't have all this stuff. Yes technology is fun, informative and is advancing our society, but is it good for young minds to be glued to a screen all day long?  For these new generation kids that are born with touch screen devices, I honestly feel they aren't getting the true experience of being a child. When I was eight years old, summer to me meant running around from one friends house to another, going to the public pool, sneaking into my brother bedroom to try and look cool to his good looking guy friends and getting into mischief with my closest girlfriends. It was all about beating each on the monkey bars, who could jump the furthest off the swings, playing hopscotch and double dutch with our jump ropes. So enjoy the last few days of summer and enjoy the outdoors a bit more while you still can. What do you miss most about your childhood summers?

My Grandma and Me

Growing up in my parents house, there weren't too many babysitters coming over to our home. Instead it was a trip to Grandma Dorothy's when my parents wanted a night to themselves. Which meant getting to eat candy and chips as appetizers before dinner and either coloring in our Minnie Mouse (and Disney Princess) themed coloring books, playing in her makeup drawers or learning the basics of sewing. Spending time at my grandmothers was always an adventure. Having spent her entire married life in the same house, my sister and I loved snooping through the bedroom that belonged to my mother and her three sisters growing up. We were always hopeful of finding a lost treasure that one of the girls had lost or forgotten over time; sadly nothing was ever found but playing in their room until our grandma scolded us to stay out of the bedroom meant quickly scurrying back into the living room where dinner awaited us. After grandpa's passing and all five kids out of the house, dinner with my grandma meant a home cooked meal, I Love Lucy and overflowing root-beer floats. What was it like spending time with your grandparents growing up?!

Back From the Past: Fashion Trends

If there was one brand of opened toed shoes that defined the 90's; I can say the Berkinstock absolutely defined my childhood (it may even be true that I owned a few in girly colors). With their reappearance into the trends today, I'm not sure I'm on board with this purchase or not. What do you think, yes or no to the Birkenstock?

90s Flash Back

Calling all 90s kids, get excited for a new series!!! Is there a certain time of the year where you're particularly nostalgic about your childhood?! For me that time comes around the end of summer and transitioning into fall. With back to school shopping, new clothes, getting ready for the school year and preparing for the Autumn season, I have many fond memories of past summers growing up that I decided why not have a series to dish about any and everything relating to nostalgic moments?! Of course, everyone will convince you their decade was the greatest to grow up in, but seriously being a child of the nineties was pretty rad, right?  Here's to a good week, I hope everyone enjoys the series.

Oversized Sweaters and Gilmore Girls

School is only a few weeks ago and all I can think about is that fall is just around the corner. Which as you may know spikes my mood and turns me into one excited lady with back to school shopping, planning a day trip to The Grove for a few new outfits and seeing what's new this fall. Getting back into the routine of stocking up on my favorite teas, pulling out my oversized knit sweaters (and my favorite comfy green morning robe) and preparing for the annual Gilmore Girls marathon is a refreshing reminder of why I love this season. What are you looking forward too?

Leading Ladies

Five Things to know about the Levo League Girls:

1. Upon college graduation (from Stanford) and after a few years working, Caroline Ghosn realized that women with mentors in the workforce were moving up ladder, but there wasn't enough of these encouraging leaders-which lead to the inception of the Levo League.

2. After working for McKinsey & Company, Amanda Pouchot decided to turn her dreams into what would become the Levo League. She focused her energy on leadership development and stressed the importance of the mentor and worker relationship.

3. The Levo League was founded by these two girls to help harnesses the relationship between women in the workforce, women helping women and creating a safe environment for women to gain confidence and feel powerful in the business world.

4. These girls believe that as Gen Y women, they have the power, strength and confidence to change the way women are viewed in the work world.

5. Looking for a job or need help, check out their site...I'm a dedicated follower of this amazing community.

Quote of the Day

"Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future...A day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for."

Friday Mornings

Well hello lovelies, how's your August going so far?! Any vaca's or even stay-cations worth sharing?! I got back earlier in the week from a mini vacation to North Carolina to visit my brother and his fiance, it was a blast to say the least.  Lots of southern food, roaming the 'cool' areas of downtown, checking out a few local bars, a little wedding planning and plenty of time to catch up with my big bro and my soon to be sister. My weekend includes pizza parlors, catching up with old friends from out of town, seeing my guy and giving lots of love to my baby yorkies. What's on the agenda for your weekend, have a good one and see you next week :)

Side Swept Do's

One thing I miss about my long hair is tossing it to the side and making a messy braid, because there's nothing more chic, summery and super cool to rock during the blistering temperatures in the desert. Not to mention this nude hat would be perfect to sport around, I'll go ahead and start searching for a wide banded hat to add to my small but growing collection. What are you favorite quick do's during the summers?

The Daily Escape

Have you ever been to Georgetown, the historic neighborhood near D.C.? The first (and last) time I ever went I was in the first or second grade, my dad likes to remind us kids he was born and raised as a baby/toddler (my grandfather was in med-school at Georgetown University, what a smarty pants, right?) in the town that predated the federal district by forty years. The last time I was in the D.C. area, my brother and I were going from museum to museum and taking pictures in front of the monument but never made it back to address where my dad called home. I'm dying to get back and take my time in this dreamy little town.

Latte Bowls

I don't know about you but I have a serious issue with wanting every color these latte bowls come in at Anthropologie. Use them for everything from oatmeal to ice cream, cereal and an excellent bowl of fresh mixed berries to the occasional lunch of organic mac-n'-cheese. If you don't have any well go and get them, at five bucks each go ahead and get yourself a couple or maybe enjoy splurging on these babies. Anthropologie seriously is my favorite go to for fun and pretty kitchenware for myself and as gifts for my friends?!
