Bring Back the 80's

I've always wanted the confidence to rock the outfit in Eric Prydz music video, Call On Me, ridiculous I know but it's something I've wanted to dress up as for Halloween. Although not that risque I will be channeling an 80's exercise costume this Halloween. What are you going as?!

Saturday Happy

We've discussed podcasts once before and I revealed I really had no clue or saw what the big deal was. Six years later, a day doesn't go by without listening to my some of my absolute favorites. After recommendations from friends and my guy, Friday doesn't seem right without my routine of a bubble bath and listening to NPR. When it comes to Pop Culture, I couldn't imagine a discussion not including Linda, Glen, Stephen and Trey from NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour. In fact it was the last segment of their podcast that inspired this here series, so what's making you happy this week? Have any other podcast suggestions, I'm all ears?!

Friday Morning

I'm keeping it short this week so I hope you have a good one. Eat delicious and comforting food, have a night out on the town and check out a new bar with friends, wear deep red (I found this beautiful deep and lustful red lip stain by Revlon), sleep in Saturday and surround yourself with fresh and clean sheets (I would love to close myself in, draw the curtains around this bed and go back to sleep) and enjoy the fact you don't have to worry about readings, assignments or finals. And if you are, I feel your pain. Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

Pet Peeves

It's National Pet Peeve Week, go ahead and show me your list:

1. People who leave shopping baskets in parking spaces, put it away!
2. As mentioned above: when people talk to you, when you're clearly reading a book.
3. When people talk over others, RUDE!
4. People who lack certain manners like not saying thank you to waiters.
5. In general, I can't deal with extremely loud people.
6. Beyond chipped nail polish, just take it off please before you drive me insane!

this week's favorites...

Confession, one of my favorite stories and disney movies growing up, would be The One Hundred and One Dalmatians; how could you not want a dog like Pongo and Missis Pongo (Perdita in the Disney version). There were only a few dogs I remember growing up with, one of them being a dalmatian named OB. He was the first dog I fell in love with, the first dog that became my best friend and from what I remember the perfect family dog. So you can imagine when we were no longer allowed to keep him, I'm pretty sure I was throwing a tantrum when my parents decided to take him to his new home. Do you have a favorite breed?!

Spooktacular Projects

Earlier in the week I participated in helping build and design the entrance to the haunted house at the local Boys and Girls Club. I've recently joined the National Junior League Association and have just started my initiation process here in the desert. With a calender of events, socials and community service projects I jumped at the idea of working on a haunted house. Walking into the Halloween section at Michael's, I could have easily spent over $200 buying creepy decorations but I refrained myself for not knowing what age group would be attending the spooktacular event in just a few weeks. In the end, the project was a fun experience; getting to meet and  learn about the officers of the group and work on something halloween related couldn't have been a better fit for me. Check out the local events and projects in your home town and volunteer to build a haunted mansion!

Pine Cone Feeder

Ever since the hummingbirds and finches took over the backyard last year, I'll admit I really enjoy the routine bird watching experience from my kitchen window. Each morning while I'm making breakfast and packing my lunch for the day, I'll see my favorite hummingbirds hover over or stand on the feeder perched right outside my kitchen windows. When I notice the royal bluish and purple chested hummingbird and the pudgy little guy return at least every other morning, I honestly get a tad excited that they come back regularly to my feeders. So why not get creative and create a pine cone feeder for your local little flyers!

Pumpkin Bread For Me

When autumn finally comes around all I think about is comfort food and the lingering smell of baked goods. I recently made some Hello Dollies (to take to work) and while they were settling after I pulled them fresh out of the oven, the house smelled nothing short of delicious. Which obviously means starting a fire, wrapping myself up, plopping down on the couch, pulling out a puzzle and indulging myself with treats.
As I've mentioned in the past, I know next to nothing when it comes to cooking a meal. However, since I've been acquiring a few kitchen essentials and have been whipping up veggie omelets, I'm not as shy as I use to be with the oven or the stove. So I've taken it upon my self to bake and treat my coworkers with my some of my favorite recipes from my mother's recipe book (my mom could honestly open up her own bakery and it would be a hit, that's how good her stuff is). Since we're entering into the season of giving why not surprise your coworkers with a yummy pumpkin treat, like thhis peanut butter pumpkin bread with chocolate chips recipe, I'll just say your welcome because I know you and your friends will love them!

The Friday Night Knitting Club

Confession: I don't know how to sew, period!! I recently taught myself how to sew a shank button, but that's as far as it goes. Spending so much time with my grandmother growing up, if there was one thing I knew that my grandmother did well, it was sew! Being the rascal toddlers my sister and I were, we didn't pay too much attention when grandma was trying to teach us something important, like the art of sewing. I remember learning to cross stitch while dinner was being made but that never ended up in a complete state. Now twenty-five years later and I'm interested in learning, I wish I would have paid a bit more attention. Do you know how to sew, are you a part of a knitting club perhaps? The idea of getting together with a group of friends and learning something like sewing together seems like a good idea to me?!

Leaf Peeping

During third grade, friday nights were designated for slumber parties and watching Troop Beverly Hills over and over, in short I dreamed of being a girl scout. Growing up,  I wish there would have been an active troop in my hometown since I always had an interest in becoming a girl scout, the camping and hiking trips, the community service, collecting leaves and all those badges! It all seemed like such fun even though it was intellectually challenging.  When I moved in middle school, meeting new friends who were a part of troops would be working on their projects and I wanted so bad to be a part of the teamwork; the leaf collections being my favorite! So once the leaves begin to change color and dance in the wind until they hit the ground, I can't help but think of  creating a collection of my own. With the start of this year's fall series, why not start off the season with a fun little leaf project?!
