10 Items or Less

Image
I have been a long time fan of Benefit Cosmetics, As in I started wearing it in high school over ten years ago, the products and the packaging just screamed me. I wore the same mascara and blush for six years before my sister suggested other palettes, colors and brands. These are my less than ten items you must have from Benefit! Enjoy :)

My Sister

Image
I've mentioned that my sister is quite the make-up guru on the blog several times. She's introduced me to so many products I never would have found or even considered with my skin, the same goes for skin care products. Well I'm excited to tell all of you she now has her own channel. Make sure to check it out if you ever need make-up help, suggestions or just wanting to learn about different kinds of products.

The Many Outfits of Olivia Pope

Image
I know I'm not the only one who is completely envious of Kerry Washington's wardrobe in Scandal. I hunted down the costume stylist of the show, her name is Lyn Paulo - her style is flawless and I want her number!!! I'm trying to finish season four as we speak so I can talk about it with coworkers, my boyfriend and sister.  What's your favorite outfit?

It's time for thick scarves, boots, loafers, dark shade pumps , mid length skirts and grey everything. Have you seen the Madewell Lookbook yet? I want everything, particularly the dark green skirt in the above photo. What is your favorite look this season?

Saturday Happy

This wonderful book of poems for gutsy girls is beautiful. For all girls in high school and women who still remember their girlhood experiences, this little collection of poetry is just for you. What is making you happy this week?

Friday Morning

Image
Happy first week of it being the official fall season!!! It's actually starting to cool down which for me that means it has consistently been in the high 80's and low 90's during the day and I want to dress as warm as I can. The boots and socks last for about ten minutes then I want to take them off because it is still blistering hot. I'll try to embrace summer clothes a little longer but hurry it up already!!! Anyways, I'm off to try a new restaurant opening in Palm Springs and ready to start moving back into my home library over the next few days. What are your plans?

My Top Five

Image
I use these threshold bowls for everything - storing fruit, making salad or for loading up on popcorn for movie nights.
Eight different kitchen tools all stacked together in this wine bottle
My mom gifted me this plate set last Christmas and I still love it.
Since I've been dieting and resorting to zucchini noodles instead of pasta, this gadget has become my new best friend.
Now that I've accumulated about twenty cookbooks and have several slow cooker recipes to try, this will also be put to use on the regular.

In the Kitchen

Image
When it comes to kitchen design and decoration I stick to three rules to create a happy and cozy eating space. For me, comfortably is a key but an open counter space with little to no clutter and everything being in reach for me is also crucial. Since I sometimes do homework, blog or other work related projects at the kitchen table in the mornings or at dinner time, comfort is a high priority. I prefer chairs with a soft backing so my back won't hate me later in the day. For a more retro vibe, I like the idea of mismatching chair;, it gives the room a little more charm, don't you think? If there is one room where I do not want to see a mess, it's the kitchen. I cannot stand clutter! Keep it simple and only display what you use regularly. I try to keep a minimalist approach to organizing the kitchen counter-tops otherwise I'll just want to clean all the time. And one last request, overhead storage space is the worst for me. I have to keep a stool in the kitchen so I ca…

Need a Little Motivation

Image
Need a little motivation while you're in school, so do I!!!!
Get yourself an Insprational tumbler.
Buy a pair of running shoes, get outside and clear your head.
Make a playlist and when you need a break listen to your favorite band or podcast.
When it comes to those late night study sessions get comfortable in these leggings.
Make sure to buy to Elizabeth Gilbert's newest book (and listen to the podcast)!

School Girls

Image
In a family of five, four of us have at least a masters degree, my mom has bachelor's degree and I'm convinced if she didn't have three kids she would have gone for a higher degree. With Ph D. in science, two masters degrees in accounting and an almost masters in library in information science, my family sounds like a bunch of overachievers. We're all independent, passionate, dedicated and I'd say hard working people. Both my siblings previous work experiences averaged out to at least ten hour days of grueling workloads. I don't see how my parents survived nearly fifteen years of college and graduate school, but I'm incredibly thankful they were there for every late night phone call and a few attempts to want to come home when school just seemed impossible.
In our household, no is simply not in our vocabulary! While you may think that we are privileged, ridiculously smart (even though I really think my siblings are geniuses) or lucky to go graduate school…

Spend More Time Outside

Image
Before technology took over our lives and entertainment meant going outside and playing with your siblings, climbing trees, getting dirty and not having to worry about Vitamin D deficiencies, playing outside until my mom called us in for dinner was never a problem in our household. In fact one of the greatest gifts my parents ever gave me was the chance to live three thousand away from them when I was eleven years old for an entire summer. It wasn't a science, computer or any other kind of technology camp, it was a good old fashion camp, in fact Walden just celebrated it's 100th birthday.  I owe my parents everything for giving me the chance to not only have fun away at camp but to learn really important and valuable life lessons. And that was to enjoy my youth but also learn life skills like adapting to a new environment when you don't know a soul. As an eleven girl, I was never scared or nervous about leaving my parents. It never donned on me to be frightened that I wou…

The Daily Escape

Image
I've been to New Hampshire once in my life, I was eleven years old and I had never seen anything more beautiful (that is outside of Maine) in my life. Since I spent my summers in Maine, it was a special treat to get out of the woods and go into town. Now there isn't much to the small town that Denmark is, so going for a quick trip outside of Walden was especially exciting for me. Some of my best memories of camp include the annual hiking trip, our canoe trips and a fun day away from camp. A day to go to the movies, walk around town and eat something besides the usual peanut butter and fluff sandwiches I made myself for dinner. Even though it was was less than 48 hours away from Walden, whatever town we were in while staying in New Hampshire, all I can say is I bet it is absolutely gorgeous in the fall.
I've never been to the East Coast in Autumn but it's near the top of my bucket list. When I went away to college and experienced my first Indiana Fall, I felt so lucky…

Friday Film

Image
For the kids book discussion group at the library this fall, we're reading a few classics: The Westing Game, Harriet the Spy and Wonkenstein.  I've read Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh I don't know many times, it was definitely one of my favorites growing up. I can still remember my mom getting me a spy kit and notebook, so I could do my own spy work. Since I finished it reading it for the millionth time earlier this week, I decided to watch the 90s classic with Michele Trachtenberg. What are you watching this weekend?

Friday Morning

Image
It feels like summer is finally over! The other day I woke up to it being sunny, breezy and sixty eight degrees, I immediately went for a morning walk to enjoy the perfect weather. I don't have much planned for the weekend since I'll be be working most of it but what I have off I'll be spending outdoors. I'm looking forward to trying out a new soup recipe I came across earlier in the week and getting cozy with my copy of the new Mindy Kaling book! What are you up too this weekend?

Giving Back

Image
In the many Anthropology classes I took in college, there was a particular class and professor that really connected with me. For an entire month, we learned, studied and wrote papers about specific organizations that we were passionate about. I've been following Women for Women for many years now and I'm excited to be sponsoring again. How do you give back?
