this week's favorites...

As usual after I was flipping through the sweetest picture book on e.e. cummings last week,  I couldn't help but spend the next few days reading his poetry, his life story and his model wife, Marion Morehouse. What a beauty. These photos made me particularly happy this week :)

Friday Morning

It's been a week of sleeping with the humidifier on, dealing with body aches and serious coughing fits so I'm glad it's the weekend. For the next two days all I want to do is sleep, eat chicken noodle soup, try to catch up to the latest episode of the The Black Tapes Podcast and read/edit papers for class assignments so I can get a little more rest. What have you been up too? What are you plans for the weekend? See ya'll Monday :)

Packing Lunch

When it comes to lunch ideas for the work week, I'm horrible about planning in advance. I usually only pack small snacks or pick up something close by when I'm on break. Now that I'm trying to be more health conscious and not have to rely on pick up orders, I make the effort of actually packing my lunch and this smashed chickpea, avocado and pesto salad sandwich is first on the list to make.

Ingredients
1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 large ripe avocado
2 tablespoons of Basil Pesto
Juice from 1/2 lemon
Sal and pepper, to taste
Multi-grain Bread
Spinach leaves

Directions:
1. Place the chickpeas on a paper towel or clean kitchen towel and remove the outer skins. Roll them around a bit and they will come off easily. You can leave them on, but I like to remove them.

2. In a medium bowl, combine the chickpeas and avocado. Smash with a fork until well combined. it is ok if some of the chickpeas are chunk. Stir in pesto and fresh lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

3. Spread chickpea salad on bread slices and top with spinach leaves. Cut sandwich in half and service.

Note: Look for Spinach Basil Pesto at the store.

Sick and in Bed

When you're sick and unable to get out of bed, bedside assistance should include:

A comfy but cute sweatshirt to keep the chills away.

A thick blanket to wrap yourself with while channel surfing.

These short stories and books to keep on your nightstand.

Who said coloring wasn't fun, treat yourself with oil pastels

Stylish and girly Kleenex to keep in bed with you.

Cough drops that actually taste good.

To help sleep, a cute mask and cough syrup.

Your soulmate through all the coughing and aches.

The Working Girl

Once you've established a cozy home in a new city and are finally getting use to your everyday workload, how do you grow as an (insert your job title here). Do sign up for webinars? When traveling do you get in contact with people in your field in different cities?! The more degrees and diplomas you have is nice, but I also believe in who you know and how you interact with peers and coworkers is also crucial, it's all about that networking. Meeting like minded people who share your same work ethic and doing the little things to show you appreciate what the other person is doing or saying is really important. Creating healthy and good relationships in the workplace, even if it's at a conference across the country will definitely benefit you. How do you network? Where do you go? Who do you know? Where do you start?

Conferences: Being in the library world, there are more conferences than you know! I sign up for newsletters with the ALA (American Library Association) and CLA (California Library Association) to be constantly in the know of what is going on and look for things that interest me.

Junior League: Look for local and national organizations to be apart of. Junior League is an excellent and reputable organization for women who aspire to becoming leaders in their communities.

College Alumni: Once I'm finished with school, I promise to become a little more involved with the universities I went too. Getting back in contact with old friends and meeting new ones with people who went to the same school helps and feels a little more inviting and familiar than going somewhere new.

Volunteer: Volunteer somewhere. I maybe a little bias, but volunteering in libraries is a great place to meet new and fascinating people. If you're an expert in your field of study, giving lectures or participating in small events is a great way to put yourself out there.

Saturday Happy

The other day while I was researching for a class, I went down the rabbit hole of the history of libraries. Three hours later I was reading issue after issue of the Library of Congress Magazine. I know what you're thinking, what a nerd!!! But seriously, it's twenty pages of fascinating articles from the history of cookbooks, the library's comedy collection, learning about laws of countries that no longer exist, a profile of Mary Pickford and all things bookish, culture and history related. What's making you happy this week?

Friday Morning...

Hello readers, how was your week?! I'm escaping the desert for a day trip to the beach with my sister, so I'm looking forward to spending my Saturday in L.A. Other than a quick trip, reorganizing and editing my portfolio with my adviser, I'm counting down the days of school this semester. What are you up too this weekend, any plans or are you just enjoying a lazy weekend with your family?! Have a good one and see you Monday :)

Posies and Co

Since my sister is constantly suggesting makeup brands, sharing her favorite lipsticks with me and recommending skincare products to try out, I have been all about trying out new things. This is something I do not do, I'm always nervous my skin will have some terrible reaction.  I have been wearing the same products for year so I'm definitely curious to try new things, luckily no flare ups or itchy skin yet. I came across this brand, Posies and Co Bath and Body Oil and I love, love, love it. I perfer the Frangipani scent, go to your local Anthropologie and stock up and this lush little treat.

The Librarian Suggests

What I'm Reading:
Besides what's assigned to me in class, I've been enjoying another reading of Marina Keegan's short stories and essays, The Opposite of Loneliness. A beautiful collection of very real stories for twenty-somethings and touching essays that makes us ask ourselves what do we want in this life. Whatever it is, Marina urges you to go after it. I'm also reading e.e. cummings poems after looking through the lovely picture book about his life, Enormous Smallness. And if you need some down to earth philosophy, I just finished The Art of Living by Epictetus.

What I'm Listening too:
The Broadway Sensation, Hamilton. I cannot get enough of the music, by the way did you see the acceptance speech at the Grammy's?! If not, here it is. Your welcome :)

What I'm Watching:
Serendipity, I LOVE this movie. It's seriously impossible to get sick of.

Friday Mornings

It's the freaking weekend and I could not be more excited to sleep in a few extra days this week. How was your week? As I bask in the sunniness of this mini heat wave we're having in Southern California, I have a ton work, a few too many errands to run and date I'm looking forward to this  V-Day weekend. Work related research includes watching 90's teen game shows, modifying them and turning our Summer Reading Program into one giant maze and game of Legends of the Hidden Temple; I know what your thinking and yes it's going to be retro and lots o fun. I seriously cannot wait. School work is well school work, only two and half months to go, YEAH!!!!! A trip to the hospital to drop off all the hearts we made at the library, a low key date night, tanning and a swim or two and hanging at the local home depot to check the flower situation is all I have planned for the weekend. Whatever your plans are, I hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day and an awesome weekend.

Friday Mornings

For the first week of February, I've been crazy busy and I'm certainly glad it's the weekend. How was your week, what have you been up?! Thinking about the next four months terrifies me; my calendar is packed with events, lots of work and volunteering at other libraries for class assignments, oh and school. Although I hate working under pressure, the intensity and high energy, the motivation of being done with grad school and somehow finding time to workout, I always do amazingly well when put in situations where I'm under a ton of pressure. With a full weekend (but at least I get to sleep in a little), I will leave you with a few links that made me particularly happy :)
See you Monday morning!!!

A Cozy, Comfy Home

Due to the cool weather lately, leaving my bed in the early hours of the morning has become a difficult task. Staying in bed, feeding my fish, reading for pleasure and enjoying the set of tea my brother got me for Christmas has become my favorite thing about my day. I've been living in my place for exactly a year come next week and I'm finally getting around to organizing and decorating as much as I can between school and my longer work days. I love Alexandra's three tips for making any space a cozy one, crisp white walls, green plants and books.
