Friday Mornings

Well hello ya'll, I'm hoping your week has been splendid as mine has been trying as well as very exciting. I had applied for a higher position where I'm currently working so in between feeling anxious for the last week or so, feeling complete frustration over a computer program designed to catalog physical objects into digital records for an assignment and it not working for me, it's been an interesting week. After spending roughly nine to ten hours trying to figure out the issues with the cataloging program and waking up the to the news of getting the promotion, the ending to the week hasn't been so bad. So I hope you have a wonderful weekend, I'll be treating myself to some much needed down time, (and have decided to approach bedroom with this minimalist and chic inspired bedroom), looking forward to enjoying a nice cooked meal and tuning into season premiere episodes and getting ready for a new day at work come Monday morning. See you all Monday :)

The Rules of Fall

The crisp air has finally arrived, the triple digit temperatures are starting to fade and I've already started to compile a list of things I'd personally like to accomplish this season before it's too late.
So here goes:
1. Visit an apple orchard. I could seriously kick myself in the butt for never doing this while living in Indiana, there was the most charming little town right outside the college town where I lived that had an apple themed festival!

2. Carve an intricate design into a pumpkin. It may sound gross but I love pulling out the seeds of a pumpkin with my bare hands. Years ago my mom bought a pumpkin carving kit, you better believe I'm going to find an awesome stencil because my pumpkin will be the best in the neighborhood!

3. I will make a maple based recipe! I recently found this chicken recipe and this maple bar treat, nevertheless, one if not both will be made and devoured this season!

4. Being the film junkie that I am, I love the idea of starting a movie club. If you're interested let me know, a night of movies, treats and good company, I'm all in!!!

5. Bring the art of the wreath back into existence. My mom was the queen of finding the best wreaths; once greeted by the two seasonally appropriate wreaths hanging on the front door after school made my day all the better.

The Daily Escape

Spending those precious summers in Maine as a child were possibly the best summers of my life. I couldn't get over the natural beauty of the lakeside, the small village like towns with populations of three thousand people or less, trees for days or the white picket fences that wrapped around each house, the idea of running in fields for days and picking blueberries as a past time. There's something so beautiful, so patriotic and so Thoreau about the New England area, and if there's one place I'd love to visit that's off the beaten path of the major cities in the area it would be Washington Depot, Connecticut. Yes, this is because I was a Gilmore Girl fanatic growing up! Seeing a small historic town where it's citizens care very much about historic reenactments in town meetings, knowing close to everyone in town, enjoying each season (especially autumn), antiquing and marveling at the preserved history is enough for me to pack my bags right now! Where are you dreaming of right now?!

Friday Mornings

This has been one long (in a good way) but surprisingly relaxing week, how's your been?! Between the homework piling up, waiting, crossing my fingers and more waiting, meeting new and fabulous ladies and finally seeing the first signs of autumn in the desert, I'm looking forward to having the weekend off to enjoy the slight breeze and being outdoors. I plan on spending uninterrupted time poolside with my dogs, sipping fall appropriate sangria, sleeping in a bit (so wishing it were this bed!!!!)  and catching up on The Big Bang Theory before it starts this week! What are your plans
for the weekend, whatever you do have a good one and see you Monday!!! Happy Fall to you all :)

Dark Colors and Heavy Knits

When I came across the fall fashion spread in the October issue of Real Simple, I instantly fell in love. There's nothing more exciting than seeing what's new for the season, the dark colors and heavy knits, well I can go on and on so let's see what coming this autumn. My love for long coats, wool skirts, dark colored dresses, new styles of boots, peacoats, fur vests, overwhelming scarves and dramatic jewelry, I want it all to say the least. What's your your fall wish list, I'm already making mine!

September Poetry Club

For sometime now I've noticed patrons requesting books on poetry, it's been everything from cultural to classic poems, acquiring all the material by John Keats and Edgar Allen Poe that we have and wanting to learn the basics on how to read and understand poetry. With a subject that seems to be a dying breed, there's something so refreshing and light, something about the prose that makes me fall in love with the words themselves. In my young adult life, I can count on one hand all my academic experience with poetry; it includes memorizing and reciting a sonnet by Shakespeare, going on a walk with Chaucer in his Canterbury tales, learning about the greats like Robert Frost, Lord Byron, e.e. cummings, Maya Angelou and even Beethoven, rhyme, alliteration and assonance and making a few of my own poems, I can't remember if they were any good! So, I've checked out some Poe and gothic style poetry. What style do you prefer, do you have a favorite poet?!

Indian Summer at Dusk

Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer,
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
    Ceaseless, insistent.

The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
Under a moon waning and worn, broken,
    Tired with summer.

Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
    Snow-hushed and heavy.

Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest,
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
    Lest they forget them.

Saturday Happy

I was never one of those girls who hung posters like The Breakfast Club or the latest album artwork of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in my dorm room in college. Instead I was more into finding artwork and creating my own work to show case in my room. It was during college when I was inspired and motivated to create a mood board. Six years later, I've still kept up with the tradition of maintaining and constantly updating my piece of art. Instead of cutting out magazine clippings, I've resorted to images via pinterest and instead of making a mess with hundreds of pictures, I've narrowed down my imagery to the important things in life, reminding myself to stop, slow down and appreciate the small things, feeling inspired by word art and choice fashion picks.

If you were to start your own board, what would be on yours? What do you find most important in your life or things to make you feel inspired?! I'm loving waking up to this every morning, so what's making you happy this week?!

Friday Mornings

What are you looking forward to this weekend, I've got a busy one filled with reading, more reading, catching up with some girlfriends, getting my party on, finishing up my first paper and starting an exam! Make sure to enjoy every moment of your weekend, it's suppose to finally cool down which means fall really is on its way and I'll be spending as much time outdoors as possible. Sunday is reserved for staying in bed (I love these sheets so much, they're fresh out of the dryer and on my bed) a little longer than usual and catching up on so much needed pleasure reading, I'm currently reading Thieves of Book Row (by Travis McDade) and I can't put it down.

Warmer Colors and Comfort Food

If your favorite season isn't Fall, well I'll just give you a few reason why you should.
1. The warm colors of the different shades of orange, yellow and red tinted leaves.
2. The sun goes down earlier and lamp posts are dimly lit in the early evening.
3. The smell of comfort food makes me want to eat and eat and eat!
4. I much prefer boots, scarves and heavy knitted sweaters.
5. Going for a walk outside doesn't feel like a chore.
